The governments of Pakistan and Iran deported at least 100 Afghan migrant families on Saturday, according to Taliban-run media reports.
Some of the refugees reportedly returned from Iran voluntarily, the Bakhtar News Agency said. Pakistan deported 64 families, while 36 families were sent back from Iran, the agency reported.
Of those deported, 33 families entered Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing and 31 through Spin Boldak. An additional 20 families returned via the Silk route, while 16 entered through Islam Qala.
Some families returning from Pakistan have raised concerns about mistreatment, alleging that Pakistani police had seized their belongings.
A United Nations report notes that over 600,000 Afghan migrants fled to Pakistan following the collapse of the previous Afghan government in August 2021.
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have introduced a new plan aimed at returning over two million Afghan migrants to their home country. Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, have expressed alarm over the forced deportations, particularly in light of the ongoing restrictions faced by women and girls under Taliban rule.
