Six years later: Remembering Samim Faramarz and Ramiz Ahmadi

Today marks the sixth anniversary of the deaths of Samim Faramarz, a journalist, and Ramiz Ahmadi, a cameraman, who both worked for TOLOnews. They were killed in a double bombing in Kabul on Sept. 5, 2018.

Faramarz and Ahmadi were covering the aftermath of an explosion at the Maiwand Sports Club in the Dasht-e-Barchi district in western Kabul when a second blast struck, targeting first responders and reporters at the scene.

Faramarz graduated from Afghan-Turk High School in 2009 and went on to complete his higher education in Kazakhstan. At the time of his death, he had been with TOLOnews for nearly three years.

Ahmadi had five years of experience as a cameraman with the network.

Their deaths are a stark reminder of the dangers faced by journalists working in conflict zones, where covering the news often means risking their lives
