Afghanistan has once again become a terrorist safe haven, McCaul warns

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Afghanistan has once again become a terrorist safe haven, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul warned on the third anniversary of the U.S. military’s withdrawal from the country.

In a sharply worded statement, McCaul condemned the Biden administration’s handling of the exit, arguing that the chaotic departure has not only reignited terrorist threats in the region but also severely damaged U.S. credibility on the global stage.

“The Biden-Harris administration stranded at least 1,000 American citizens, abandoned tens of thousands of our Afghan allies, and left behind more than $7 billion worth of U.S. military equipment,” McCaul stated.

“Now, the Taliban is parading and selling that equipment on the black market, while Afghanistan has reverted to a breeding ground for terrorism,” he added.

McCaul also accused the administration of emboldening adversaries like China, Russia, and Iran, and lamented the lack of accountability for the withdrawal’s disastrous consequences.
