Rosemary DiCarlo, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General, condemned the Taliban’s new law, describing it as “unconscionable.”
“The ‘morality law’ recently promulgated by the de facto authorities in Afghanistan further restricts human rights and freedoms, particularly of women. This is unconscionable. If maintained, the law can only impede Afghanistan’s return to the international fold,” DiCarlo said in a statement on X on Sunday.
The Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice introduced the law nearly a week ago, sparking widespread and intense reactions both domestically and internationally.
Several Western nations, including Belgium, Germany, Japan, and Sweden, have also strongly condemned the law.
