Floods cause significant financial losses in Maidan Wardak

KABUL, Afghanistan — Heavy floods swept through several parts of Maidan Wardak province on Saturday night, causing substantial financial damage to residents, according to local sources.

The floods struck particularly hard in Behsood district, with the village of Janqara Ramoz among the worst affected, sources reported. Agricultural lands, roads, and irrigation canals were damaged, exacerbating the challenges faced by the local population.

As a result of the flooding, the Kabul-Daikundi highway, a crucial route passing through Behsood, has been closed to traffic, further isolating the affected areas. Villages identified as most vulnerable to the floods include Janqara Ramoz, Qool Nokar, Bandshoi, Dehn Pasag, and Gaw Murda.

The Taliban-run Department of Disaster Management in Maidan Wardak confirmed the occurrence of the floods in Behsood but stated that accurate information regarding casualties and the full extent of financial losses is still unavailable. The closure of roads leading to the affected areas has hindered assessment and relief efforts.
