Taliban publicly flogs two men in Maidan Wardak province

Taliban publicly flogged two men in Maidan Wardak province on Monday, accusing them of corruption, according to a statement from the Taliban-run Supreme Court.

Each of the men received 39 lashes in a public setting, the court said. Their identities were not disclosed. In addition to the flogging, both men were sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Despite international condemnation from the United Nations and global human rights organizations, the Taliban continue to carry out corporal punishment.

According to findings by Amu Television, nearly 600 people, including more than 100 women, have been publicly flogged across Afghanistan during the Taliban’s three years in power.
