The Taliban-run Ministry of Transportation and Civil Aviation announced that direct flights between Herat and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, commenced on Tuesday night.
The inaugural flight, operated by Ariana Afghan Airlines, took place on Tuesday night.
The ministry released a video of the flight, stating that Ariana Afghan Airlines will conduct one flight per week. Tuesday night’s flight carried 127 pilgrims.
Following the Taliban’s takeover of the country, many airports ceased operations. However, in May 2022, the Taliban signed an agreement with the UAE to manage the operations of airports in Herat, Kandahar, Mazar-e-Sharif, and Kabul.
