Afghan national killed in Dogharoun customs fire, sources say

Sources in Herat province reported that an Afghan national died in a fire on Monday afternoon at the Dogharoun customs, a border crossing between Iran and Afghanistan.

The victim, a truck driver, reportedly died while attempting to flee toward the Afghan border during the blaze. Sources also indicated that many Afghan drivers suffered significant financial losses due to the fire.

The fire broke out around 1 p.m. on Monday near the refueling area for trucks from Afghanistan.

Mohammad Reza Rezaei, the deputy political, security, and social affairs governor of Taybad in Iran, stated, “Due to the extensive fire involving fuel tankers in the Dogharoun Special Economic Zone, the border, including the special economic area, customs, border market, and all truck traffic, has been halted.”

Iranian media have reported that the fire has left $50 million in damages.
