Iran holds ceremony marking start of Pezeshkian presidency

A ceremony marking the official start of Masoud Pezeshkian’s presidency was held at Imam Khomeini Hussainiya in Tehran on Sunday.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei presented Pezeshkian with a decree for his presidency at the ceremony, which was attended by various leaders and officials.

Pezeshkian, who defeated hardline candidate Saeed Jalili in a second-round vote, is scheduled to be sworn in as Iran’s ninth president at the parliamentary complex in Tehran on Tuesday, July 30.

This transition follows the tragic death of the late President Ebrahim Raisi, who was killed in a helicopter crash near the Azerbaijan border in May, along with his foreign minister and seven others.
