LOGAR, Afghanistan — Taliban on Wednesday re-inaugurated the reconstruction of a road project in Logar province, a year after its initial opening by its local officials.
The 25-kilometer road, which links Mohammad Agha district to the Kabul-Logar highway, is a part of the Aynak Copper Project, operated by the Chinese company MCC.
The Aynak Copper Project, established through a 2008 agreement between the former Afghan government and MCC, has encountered numerous delays due to security issues and the discovery of historical artifacts at the site.
During the reopening ceremony, Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister, and Hedayatullah Badri, the Taliban’s Minister of Mines, were present.
In a statement, Baradar acknowledged the significant delays in the project and emphasized the need for urgent progress. He assured MCC of the security of their employees.
