Taliban minister divides social media activists into ‘supporters and grudge holders’

Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s foreign minister, addressed Taliban spokespeople in Kabul, categorizing social media activists into two groups: those who support the Taliban and those who, driven by personal grudges and the desire for fame, post critical content.

Muttaqi urged Taliban spokespersons to support those who are active on social media in favor of the Taliban.

He emphasized that in addition to their official duties, spokespersons should act as “supportive spokespersons” on social media.

In his address, Muttaqi said, “Speak in a way that benefits the Emirate (Taliban) and Islam.”

Addressing criticism over the lack of a clear plan and agenda in the administration of Taliban-run agencies, Muttaqi claimed that the occasional messages from the Taliban leader form the basis, plan, and agenda for all their work.

This comes as Taliban has imposed strict censorship on the media and citizens’ activities on social media.

Over the past nearly three years, Taliban has detained, imprisoned, and tortured dozens of social media activists for criticizing their officials and governance.
