KABUL, Afghanistan — More than 1,800 Afghan migrants entered the country on Tuesday, July 9, including 342 Afghans who were deported by Pakistan on the same day, according to a statement from the Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees.
Of these, 1,466 migrants were either deported or returned voluntarily to the country on the same day, the ministry said.
The migrants entered the country through the Torkham border crossing in the east and the Silk Bridge border in the west.
This comes as the UN refugees agency announced Tuesday that Pakistan had suspended the deportation of undocumented Afghan migrants. The announcement was made following a three-day visit of the UNHCR chief to Pakistan where he met with Pakistani prime minister as well as Afghan refugees in the South Asian country.
