KABUL, Afghanistan — Taliban-run National Procurement Commission approved a budget of nearly 5 billion Afghanis ($70 million) for 12 projects during a meeting on Sunday.

According to a statement from the office of Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s deputy chief minister, the projects include the construction of health centers in remote areas, the reconstruction of sections of the Badghis-Faryab highway, building of retaining walls along this highway, and several other initiatives.

This comes as the lack of transparency in the Taliban’s allocation of ordinary and developmental budgets has drawn criticism.
