President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan has called for the implementation of practical measures to construct road and rail routes along the “China-Tajikistan-Afghanistan” corridor, according to media reports.
Following a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Rahmon addressed a press conference, emphasizing the importance of expanding connections and regional trade. “We also propose taking practical measures for the construction of road and rail routes along the China-Tajikistan-Afghanistan corridor to expand connections and regional trade,” Rahmon was quoted as saying by Trend News Agency.
Rahmon also highlighted the construction of the “Kalai-Khumb – Vanch – Rushon district border road,” noting that it would enhance the China-Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey transit corridor.
Since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, Tajikistan has consistently expressed concerns about the rise of terrorist threats and narcotics from Afghanistan. The country has also stressed the need for an inclusive government in Afghanistan and has closed its embassy in Kabul.
