KABUL, Afghanistan — The World Food Program (WFP) announced that it has assisted more than 24,000 families affected by natural disasters in Afghanistan this year.
The UN agency stated that the aid was distributed to help affected families recover and regain self-sufficiency.
“For over six decades, WFP has been at the forefront of supporting communities with life-saving food assistance in Afghanistan,” the WFP noted on X.
This announcement comes as the UN reported that nearly 24 million people in Afghanistan require humanitarian assistance.
According to a recent WFP report, 12.4 million Afghans are experiencing acute food insecurity.
Many citizens blame the Taliban for the rise in poverty and economic hardship, saying the group has failed to create job opportunities for the people.
