DOHA, Qatar — Rosemary DiCarlo, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General who is leading the Doha meeting on Afghanistan, noted that it is the first time such a broad cross-section of the international community and the Taliban have met.
After meeting with several country representatives, DiCarlo described the third Doha meeting, led by the United Nations, as “fruitful and effective.”
“Fruitful start to the 3rd Meeting of Special Envoys on Afghanistan. 1st time such a cross-section of the international community and the Taliban meet. Look forward to principled engagement to help the people of Afghanistan in many areas. And we thank Qatar for its support,” she stated on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The third Doha meeting is being held behind closed doors.
