KABUL, Afghanistan — The European Union has delivered 98 tons of emergency medical supplies to Afghanistan via the EU Humanitarian Air Bridge.
Raffaella Iodice, Chargée d’Affaires a.i. of the EU Delegation to Afghanistan, stated that the medical items will play a crucial role in helping children recover from malnutrition and treating wounded patients, as well as assisting those still affected by recent floods.
Janez Lenarčič, European Commissioner for Crisis Management, noted that the people in Central and Northern Afghanistan are still recovering from the devastating floods in May. “A new EU Humanitarian Air Bridge landed in Kabul, with 98 tons of lifesaving relief material. Since 2021, 36 flights with 1,750 tons of aid have been sent there,” he said.
This delivery comes as the United Nations reports that nearly 24 million people in Afghanistan will require humanitarian assistance in 2024.
