Habiba Sarabi, the former governor of Bamiyan under the previous government, announced that she will not participate in the third Doha meeting.
Sarabi stated on X that although she received an invitation from the United Nations to attend the Doha meeting, she will not be participating.
She cited the absence of discussions on women’s rights and human rights on the agenda of the third Doha meeting as her reason for declining the invitation.
Sarabi added that the United Nations has not been able to find a solution for Afghanistan based on Security Council Resolution 2721.
The prominent Afghan woman emphasized that representatives of women and civil society activists should have been included in the agenda of the Doha meeting.
Previously, Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the United Nations, mentioned that the Taliban would meet with representatives of countries and organizations during the first two days of the meeting.
He added that Afghan women representatives, along with civil and human rights activists, would meet with some country representatives on the third day, after the main meeting concludes.
The third Doha meeting, hosted by the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, is set to begin in a few hours in Qatar, with over 30 countries and international organizations participating.
The meeting will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Doha.
