Amnesty International has urged the global community to not overlook the plight of Afghan refugees, particularly women and girls, facing significant challenges after being deported from Pakistan.
In a statement on X, Amnesty International highlighted the severe restrictions imposed on Afghan women and girls under Taliban rule, including limitations on their education, employment, and freedom of movement. “Since the Pakistani government commenced deportations of Afghan refugees, these women and girls face an uncertain future,” the organization said.
The warning coincides with a report from the United Nations’ food agency, which revealed that over half a million Afghan refugees have been forced to return home from Pakistan in the past eight months.
The deportations have sparked strong reactions from human rights organizations, underscoring the harsh restrictions enforced by the Taliban since their takeover in August 2021.
