Iran holds funeral for foreign minister killed in helicopter crash

Hundreds of mourners gathered in Tehran on Thursday for a funeral ceremony honoring Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, who was killed in a helicopter crash.

Amirabdollahian died in the crash on Sunday, May 19, along with seven other passengers and crew members, including President Ebrahim Raisi.

Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani, who attended the ceremony, described Amirabdollahian as a martyr who had “guaranteed the revolutionary nature of the foreign ministry.”

Amirabdollahian will be buried south of Tehran in the Shah Abdol-Azim shrine, a mausoleum where notable Iranian politicians and artists are laid to rest.
