Seven People, Including Taliban Members, Killed in Kandahar Blast

At least seven people, including six members of Taliban forces and a civilian, were killed in an explosion in Spin Boldak district in Kandahar province on Friday, a security official said.

Mohammad Hashim Mahmoud, police chief for Spin Boldak district, the blast targeted a Taliban forces vehicle in Saro Sahano village in the district on Thursday evening.

He said that the explosion was due to the detonation of a landmine left by the previous fighting in which six members of Taliban forces and a civilian were killed and one was wounded.

“Some goats were missing in the area and the Taliban security forces were deployed to the area to find the goats when their vehicle was hit by an ordnance left by the war,” he added.

Ordnance and explosives left by the war often take a big toll on civilians in Kandahar and other parts of the country. Statistics from the Afghan Directorate for Mine Action Coordination (DMAC) in April show that 120 civilians are killed and injured each month as a result of landmine explosions and unexploded ordnance.
