Three Killed on Armed Robbery Charges in Balkh

Three people were killed on charges of armed robbery after reportedly raiding a house in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif, the center of Balkh province, on Saturday morning, security officials said.

The incident took place in a township known as ‘Khalid Project’ in district 1 of Mazar-e-Sharif city, police spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri said.

He said the armed men who were attempting to rob a house in the area were killed in the clash with security forces.

Members of the family whose house was the target of the armed men said the security of the city needs to be boosted and efforts should be made by Taliban forces to prevent such incidents.

A source aware of the incident said that one person among the armed men who wanted to do the robbery at the house held an identity card for the Islamic emirate, the so-called Taliban government.

But security officials said that the safety of the people is their top priority and that they will not allow such groups to disrupt the calm in the city.
