UN’s Bennett calls for probe into Bamyan attack

UN Special Rapporteur Richard Bennett on Sunday called for an investigation into Friday’s attack on tourists in central Bamyan province, Afghanistan.

In a post on X, Bennett condemned the attack, extended his condolences to the families of those killed, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

“I call for investigation and accountability which must follow international human rights standards,” he said.

In Friday’s attack on foreign tourists and Afghan civilians, six people, including three foreign nationals and three civilians, were killed.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Taliban said they have arrested seven individuals on suspicion of involvement in the attack.
