Taliban flogs two people in public in Badakhshan

FAIZbABAD, Afghanistan — The Taliban’s supreme court announced that two people were publicly flogged in Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan.

The two individuals received 39 lashes each after being convicted of adultery by the Taliban provincial central court, according to the statement.

Since regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban has implemented corporal punishment on hundreds of people, including several executions. Amnesty International, a human rights watchdog, has raised concerns over the lack of access to fair trials within the Taliban’s judicial system.
