Qomi says upcoming Doha meeting should reflect Afghanistan’s realities

KABUL, Afghanistan — Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran’s special envoy for Afghanistan, said that the topics and focus of the upcoming Doha meeting should be “based on the realities of the region and Afghanistan”.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Gianfranco Petruzzella, Italy’s special envoy for Afghanistan.

“The actions of non-regional countries have not been effective in resolving Afghanistan’s crises and challenges. If this situation continues, the overflow of these challenges will also affect Europe,” Qomi said in a post on X.

He added that Iran is ready to “define new cooperation with Europe, based on consultations with various parties in Afghanistan, to develop a comprehensive cooperation plan emphasizing the interests of the Afghan people and nation.”

The third Doha meeting is scheduled to take place next month. In the lead-up to this meeting, consultations among special envoys, particularly in the region, have increased.
