Japan pledges emergency relief to flood victims in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan — Japan will provide emergency relief goods through its International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to flood-affected people in northern Afghanistan, the Japanese Foreign Ministry announced.

The assistance includes tents, blankets, and other essential items, according to the statement.

Northern Afghanistan, particularly Baghlan province, has recently experienced fatal floods, resulting in scores of deaths and injuries.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that 8,975 homes were destroyed or damaged by floods in the provinces of Baghlan, Badakhshan, and Takhar.
