Afghanistan: Severe rainfall, floods forecasted in 22 provinces

The Taliban-led meteorological department has issued a warning for potential severe rainfall and flash floods across 22 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces.

According to the department’s statement, heavy rainfalls, thunderstorms, strong winds, and floods are expected on Thursday in Badakhshan, Takhar, Kunduz, Baghlan, Panjshir, Nuristan, Kunar, Laghman, Kapisa, Kabul, Parwan, Maidan Wardak, Bamiyan, Daikundi, Samangan, Balkh, Jawzjan, Sar-e Pol, Ghor, Faryab, Badghis, Herat, and the Salan areas. The forecasted rainfall is expected to vary between 15 to 40 millimeters in these regions.

This alert follows recent fatal floods triggered by heavy rainfalls over the past week in Afghanistan.
