Taliban publicly flogs individual in Paktika on robbery charges

The Taliban’s supreme court reported that an individual was publicly flogged 20 times in Paktika province on Monday.

According to a statement from the court, the person, whose identity was not disclosed, was also sentenced to six months in prison on charges of robbery.

Since their return to power in Afghanistan, the Taliban has enforced corporal punishment on dozens. Human rights organizations have repeatedly expressed concerns regarding the fairness of trials under the Taliban’s judicial system.
