Taliban says Uzbekistan interested in purchasing coal from Afghanistan

Taliban said on Sunday that Uzbek officials have expressed interest in purchasing 1 million tons of coal from Afghanistan.

Taliban’s foreign ministry said that in a meeting on Sunday, Uzbekistan officials indicated that a delegation would soon be sent to Afghanistan to finalize the purchase and to work on the reconstruction of a school in Balkh.

According to Taliban statement, the Uzbek delegation, led by Transport Minister Ilham Mahkumov and Ismatullah Irgashev, Uzbekistan’s special representative for Afghanistan, met with Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul.

Taliban also noted that the delegation brought a team of engineers to begin practical work and feasibility studies for the ‘Trans-Afghan’ railway project.

As of now, Uzbek officials have not commented on the matter
