Afghanistan: Taliban issues flood warnings for eight provinces

The Taliban’s meteorological department within the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Transportation has issued warnings for potential heavy rainfall and floods in eight of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces on May 12.

This alert comes in the wake of recent devastating floods that have particularly affected Baghlan, resulting in significant casualties.

The statement specified that Badakhshan, Takhar, Baghlan, Panjshir, Nuristan, Laghman, Kunar, and Nangarhar provinces are at risk, with rainfall expected to range from 15 to 25 millimeters.

This warning follows a report by the UN’s food agency stating that over 300 people have died in recent flooding in Baghlan province.
