Afghanistan: Heavy floods in Baghlan claim 50 lives; casualties on the rise

Taliban reported that the death toll from Friday’s floods in Afghanistan’s northern Baghlan Province has reached 50.

Hedayatullah Hamdard, the head of the Taliban’s natural disaster management authority in Baghlan, stated that the figures are preliminary and based on casualties in Pul-e Khumri, Baghlan-e-Markazi District, and other parts of the province.

Hamdard also mentioned that the death toll might rise as the situation develops.

Video footage from the area shows severe flooding with children and women among the victims.

The floods hit Baghlan-e-Markazi District, Pul-e-Khumri city, the center of Baghlan province, and other parts of the northern province.

Recent floods in various parts of Afghanistan, including western and southern provinces in the past three months have caused heavy casualties as well as severe damages to people’s properties.
