UAE agrees to release 42 Afghan inmates, says Taliban

The United Arab Emirates has agreed to release 42 Afghan nationals held in its prisons, according to Taliban’s foreign ministry.

A Taliban spokesman for the ministry stated that the agreement was reached during talks between Afghanistan’s embassy in the UAE, which is currently under Taliban control, and the UAE government.

The announcement was made on Thursday, though the specific date of the statement was not disclosed.

Taliban said some of the inmates have already been released, while others are expected to be freed in the future. The identities of the individuals have not been disclosed.

It remains unclear when the remaining inmates will be transferred to Afghanistan.
