Afghanistan: Taliban says gunman attack on Herat mosque killed six civilians

Taliban said that six civilians were killed and one more was wounded in an armed attack on worshippers at a mosque in the western province of Herat on Monday night.

Abdul Matin Qanay, spokesman for Taliban’s interior ministry, said that an “unidentified gunman” opened fire on the congregation with a Kalashnikov rifle at around 9 p.m. local time on Monday, April 29.

The attack occurred at the Imam Zaman mosque in the Andisha Township in Guzara district of Herat province, an area predominantly inhabited by the Shiites.

Sources told Amu on Monday that at least seven people were killed and more than 10 others were wounded in the attack.
