Afghanistan: Taliban publicly flogs five in Khost

KHOST, Afghanistan — The Taliban flogged five people in public in the southeastern province of Khost on Thursday for alleged theft and moral corruption, according to a statement from the Taliban’s supreme court.

The statement detailed that two of the individuals were sentenced to five years in prison and 39 lashes, while another received a three-year prison term and 39 lashes.

Additionally, two others were sentenced to eight months in prison and 30 lashes, and one more was sentenced to four years in prison and 39 lashes.

The sentences were carried out in the court of the Ismail Khel district of Khost province.

This action is part of a series of public punishments the Taliban has administered over the past two years, targeting hundreds for various crimes in different provinces.
