UN special rapporteur emphasizes global access to education

The UN special rapporteur for Afghanistan, Richard Bennett, emphasized the importance of education as a fundamental right and called for global support to ensure its accessibility.

Responding to the recent Israeli bombing of educational and cultural sites in Gaza, Bennett declared on Thursday that “neither destruction nor prohibition of access should be tolerated.”

“I’m pleased to support this call,” Bennett said.

The statement comes as girls from secondary schools have been barred from attending school over the past three years.
