Iranian military fences border with Afghanistan, official says

TEHRAN, Iran — Abdul Rahman Sasanian, a senior Iranian military official, announced Thursday that Iranian military engineers have begun fencing the border with Afghanistan. Sasanian described the project as one of Iran’s most significant national initiatives.

“We expect that through the efforts and coordination of all executive bodies involved, the project to fence the northeastern border with Afghanistan will be completed on schedule,” Sasanian stated.

The fencing extends from Dogharun to the Khaf region along the border, highlighting ongoing tensions and security challenges.

The announcement follows concerns from a senior member of the Islamic Council of Iran about border security. The councilor criticized Taliban and Pakistani border forces for their failure to secure the border and alleged collusion with terrorist organizations, including Jundallah.
