Samangan-Balkh Highway in northern Afghanistan closed due to severe weather

Taliban announced Monday that the Samangan-Balkh highway has been closed to traffic since Sunday night due to heavy rainfall and landslides.

According to the Taliban-run national broadcaster, Taliban officials in Samangan have started efforts to reopen the highway.

Recent heavy rains and floods have caused significant loss of life and property.

Taliban’s disaster management authority reported on Sunday that the inclement weather across the provinces resulted in 33 deaths and 27 injuries.

Additionally, 606 homes have been destroyed, and 200 livestock lost.
