Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid said Wednesday that Hibatullah Akhundzada, their leader, conducted the Eid al-Fitr prayer at Eidgah Mosque in Kandahar City, the provincial capital.
Mujahid, speaking on X, stated that thousands of residents from Kandahar attended the prayer session. While the Taliban has not released any video of Akhundzada’s speeches, audio clips purportedly from him are regularly disseminated on their social media platforms.
During such gatherings, including Eid and Friday prayers, Akhundzada has consistently emphasized the enforcement of Sharia law, opposition to “democracy,” and the implementation of hudud punishments.
