UN continues efforts to appoint special representative for Afghanistan

UNITED NATIONS — Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the United Nations, stated that work is ongoing to appoint a Special Representative for Afghanistan.

During a press conference yesterday, Dujarric, without providing further details, told reporters, “The process to appoint a Special Envoy is in progress.”

He emphasized that “soon” there will be an update regarding the appointment of the Special Representative for Afghanistan, which will be shared with all partners.

In accordance with a United Nations Security Council resolution, the United Nations will appoint a Special Representative for Afghanistan to advance the political process in the country.
