Taliban punishes three for political activities in Kandahar

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — Taliban punished three individuals in Kandahar on Thursday for engaging in political activities, according to a statement from the Taliban supreme court.

The statement detailed that two of the individuals were each sentenced to 15 years in prison, while a third received 30 lashes.

Additionally, another person was sentenced to eight months in prison on charges of “moral corruption” by the Taliban court.

The Taliban has prohibited the activities of political parties in Afghanistan.

Prior to the collapse of the former government, more than 70 political parties were registered with the Ministry of Justice.
