Russia considers removing Taliban from terrorist list, says Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW — The Russian Foreign Ministry is considering the removal of the Taliban movement from its list of terrorist organizations, TASS reported.

The ministry, along with the Ministry of Justice and other agencies, is reviewing the Taliban’s status.

“The final decision will rest with the country’s top political leadership,” the Foreign Ministry stated.

Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special presidential envoy for Afghanistan and director of the Foreign Ministry’s Second Asia Department, earlier told TASS that a Taliban delegation has been invited to the Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum. The international economic forum is scheduled to take place in Kazan from May 14-19.
