Amnesty International stated Wednesday that the deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan puts women and girls at a unique risk, as forced returns could significantly curtail their rights to education, work, and movement, and in some cases, expose them to the immediate threat of violence.

“The government of Pakistan must stop all deportations and take positive steps to ensure the safety of refugee women and girls,” the organization added.

This announcement comes as Pakistan has begun preparations for the next phase of deportations, which would affect documented refugees.
