In a statement marking the International Day for the Right to the Truth, the US special envoy for human rights in Afghanistan, Rina Amiri, urged the Taliban to respect the rights of all Afghans.
“Today, on the International Day for the Right to the Truth, we call on the Taliban to respect the rights of all Afghans and to account for the families of disappeared and detained victims who are struggling for the truth about the whereabouts of their loved ones,” Amiri said.
The call comes amid ongoing reports that a number of rights activists have been in Taliban custody for the past two years. Additionally, the Taliban has prohibited women and girls from accessing education.
