Gunmen attack police station in Yerevan, Armenian capital

YEREVAN, Armenia — Three armed men attempted to attack a police station in the Nor-Nork district of Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, according to the country’s Interior Ministry.

Preliminary information indicates that two of the three men were wounded as a result of hand grenades they were carrying detonating. The third man was reportedly still outside the police station with a grenade.

Russia’s state-run TASS news agency reported that the head of the Armenian police force was on the scene conducting negotiations with the man. Earlier on Sunday, the Interfax news agency, citing local media, reported that the gunmen might belong to the Combat Brotherhood organization, approximately 50 members of which had been detained earlier in the day.

The organization later denied reports of its involvement, stating it had nothing to do with the incident, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.
