Taliban claims targeting of Pakistani ‘military bases’ in retaliation for airstrikes

The Taliban’s Defense Ministry claimed it targeted Pakistani “military bases” with artillery shelling in response to Pakistan’s airstrikes in the Khost and Paktika provinces.

The ministry condemned the airstrikes as an “invasion of Afghanistan’s sovereignty” and stated its forces are prepared to counter any “aggressive acts.”

Taliban previously announced that eight civilians, including three children and five women, were killed in the airstrikes carried out by the Pakistan military in Khost and Paktika.

The claims follow a conversation between Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and his Pakistani counterpart, Ishaq Dar, in which Muttaqi expressed hopes for improved relations between the two countries.
