Afghanistan’s renowned singer, composer Ulfat Ahang passes away

Ulfat Ahang, a celebrated singer, composer, and music master from Afghanistan, has died after an illness, according to a social media post by his son, Qais Ulfat.

Ahang began his music studies in 1967 under the tutelage of Ghazal maestro Ustad Saranag, later continuing his education in India with esteemed Indian masters for 12 years.

He had relocated to Canada several decades ago.

In recognition of his lifelong contributions to music and culture, Ahang was honored with the presidential Mir Masjidi Khan medal by former President Ashraf Ghani in 2019.

Over his illustrious career, Ahang composed more than 600 songs and provided compositions for numerous artists, including notable works for the singer Hangama.
