Russians begin voting in presidential election

MOSCOW — Voting in Russia’s presidential election commenced Friday, marking the start of a three-day ballot.

Incumbent Vladimir Putin, facing three challengers who have not publicly criticized him, is widely expected to secure victory.

His popularity has surged amidst Russia’s involvement in Ukraine, with his approval ratings climbing to 86% from 71% prior to the Ukraine invasion, as reported by the Levada Centre, a respected Russian polling organization.
