US envoy Amiri stresses need for Afghan women’s participation in society

Rina Amiri, the US special envoy for Afghan women and human rights, emphasized the critical role of women’s full participation in society to avert ongoing conflict in Afghanistan.

Through a post on X, Amiri called on the international community to ensure that “inclusion, human rights, and the full participation of women in society cannot be sidelined or deprioritized.”

Her comments come amid increasing concerns about the worsening state of human rights in Afghanistan, especially for women and girls.

Richard Bennett, the UN special rapporteur for Afghanistan, shared in a video that his latest report paints a grim picture of the human rights landscape under Taliban rule, with a significant portion of the population, particularly women and girls, being deprived of their fundamental rights.
