Facebook, Messenger and Instagram experience global outage

Meta’s social media platforms, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram, are currently facing a worldwide outage, affecting hundreds of thousands of users who are unable to access these services.

The outage began around 10:20 a.m. ET, affecting both the apps and websites of these platforms.

DownDetector, an online outage monitoring service, has registered complaints from over 200,000 users in the Americas experiencing issues with Facebook, while Instagram has seen more than 30,000 reports. Messenger has received over 8,000 complaints.

Users of Facebook and Messenger encountered problems when they were logged out of their accounts unexpectedly and found themselves unable to log back in, even when using the correct credentials. Instagram users have been met with an error message when trying to access the News Feed.

According to DownDetector’s outage map, areas heavily impacted include New York City, Boston, Chicago, and several major cities in California.

The majority of reports highlight app functionality issues, with 72 percent of the problems related to Facebook, 64 percent to Instagram, and 50 percent to Messenger.
