Cast revealed for ‘The Kite Runner’ premiere in Glasgow

A theatrical adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s internationally acclaimed novel, “The Kite Runner,” is set to premiere in Glasgow. The production will take the stage at the Theatre Royal from April 9-13.

The latest cast additions include Stuart Vincent as Amir and Yazdan Qafouri in the dual roles of Hassan and Sohrab. The story delves into themes of culture, friendship, and redemption against the tumultuous backdrop of Afghanistan on the verge of war. It features a poignant moment in Kabul, highlighted by a kite flying tournament, which dramatically changes the lives of two best friends and paints a vivid picture of Afghanistan before the conflict.

Vincent’s previous roles include appearances in “The Kite Runner” UK tour, “The Play That Goes Wrong” in London’s West End, and “Romeo and Juliet” at the Orange Tree Theatre. Qafouri’s credits feature performances in “The Lord of the Rings,” “Othello,” “Rumi,” and “The Band.”

Returning to their roles for this tour are Bhavin Bhatt as Assef, Dean Rehman as Baba, and Tiran Aakel as Ali/Farid, among others, bringing significant theatrical experience to the production.

Also rejoining the cast are Ian Abeyesekera as Gen Taheri, Christopher Glover as Rahim Khan, and Stanton Wright as Wali. New ensemble members Aram Mardourian and Daphne Kouma, who previously appeared together in “The Beekeeper of Aleppo,” along with Amar Aggoun and Sulin Hasso, enrich the production. The ensemble also features Hanif Khan, who continues his role as the tabla player, a position he has held since 2013. Khan’s distinguished career includes performances in Europe, the Middle East, North America, and the UK at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, The Royal Opera House, Edinburgh International Festival, Glastonbury, and Womad Festival.
